In the presence of the President of the Hellenic Republic, Ms. Katerina Sakellaropoulou, the ceremony for the restoration of the Pavlos Melas Residence in Kifissia took place on the evening of October 13, 2020.
The event was also honored by the presence of the President of the Hellenic Parliament, Konstantinos Tasoulas, the former Prime Minister Antonis Samaras, the Minister of National Defense Nikos Panagiotopoulos, the Deputy Minister of National Defense Alkiviadis Stefanis, the Minister of Culture Lina Mendoni, and the Deputy Minister of Finance Apostolos Vesyropoulos.
The residence was designed by Pavlos Melas and built in 1894, the year during which his first child, Mikis, was born. It is a distinctive and unique example of a 19th-century country house in the suburbs of Athens. This house was a retreat for Pavlos, Natalia, and their children Mikis and Zoe during the last nine years of his life. It was later inhabited by their daughter Zoe Mela–Ioannidi, and subsequently was inherited by their granddaughter Natalia Ioannidi.
In 2009, it was declared a “preserved modern monument”, and in February 2020, Natalia Ioannidiproceeded with the donation of the residence to the Ministry of National Defense.
CYCLOPS, with a team of specialized scientists (structural engineers, architects, engineers, conservators, etc.), undertook the restoration of the residence by fully funding the cost of the construction works.
